As part of Intel® Teach Philippines’ continuing commitment to provide support to its pool of Inservice trainers, a National In-service Getting Started Course Enhancement Workshop was conducted from 18 to 19 of May 2009 in Subic Majestic Hotel at Subic Bay, Olongapo City. The two-day workshop equipped trainers with new strategies and activities that will enable them to become more effective in delivering the Getting Started Course. New activities given were related to deepening understanding of essential 21st century skills, higher order thinking, student-centered approach and facilitation skills. The workshop also familiarized trainers on the Version 2.0 curriculum and the essential guidelines in conducting the Getting Started Course. It also served as a venue for trainers to share and learn from the training experiences of other trainers and to gain a new perspective of how they can mobilize their community to facilitate conduct of the Getting Started Course trainings and implementation of learnings in the classroom.

A total of 43 out of 50 invited In-service Getting Started trainers participated in the workshop. Sixty-seven per cent of the participants were from the group of National Trainers trained in 2007 while 33 per cent came from the group of Master Trainers from the Intel® Teach volunteer units trained by the Program in 2008. Participants to the workshop were selected based on the extent to which they have completed their Getting Started Course training commitments, performance during the Getting Started Course they attended and their submission of post-PT training report requirements.

In general, majority of the participant-trainers (average of 97) expressed that the workshop materials presented and used in relation to the pedagogical contents of the Getting Started Course were to a great extent useful to them as trainers. Majority (average of 98) also considered the inputs of the workshop to be useful to a great extent in helping them enhance the delivery of the Getting Started Course.
